Chemical Peel

Chemical peels have solidified their position as a cornerstone in the skincare industry, renowned for their effectiveness in enhancing skin texture and tone. Tailored to address a multitude of concerns, from fine lines and wrinkles to acne scars and hyperpigmentation, chemical peels are celebrated for their versatility. The appeal lies in their customizability; they range from superficial peels that require minimal downtime to deeper peels that offer more dramatic results. As a testament to their enduring popularity, chemical peels remain a sought-after treatment for those looking to rejuvenate their skin with precision and expertise.

What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments that can be applied to the face, hands, and neck. They’re used to improve the appearance or feel of the skin. During this procedure, chemical solutions will be applied to the area being treated, which causes the skin to exfoliate and eventually peel off. Once this happens, the new skin underneath is often smoother, appears less wrinkled, and may have less damage.

Before and After

What is Included?

A chemical peel begins with a skin assessment and pre-treatment preparation, followed by the application of a chemical solution to exfoliate the skin. Protective ointment guards sensitive areas during the peel, which may induce sensations of tingling or burning. After the solution works its magic, it's neutralized or cleansed off, and immediate post-treatment care involves cool compresses and specific instructions for aftercare to ensure proper healing. The process concludes with follow-up visits for monitoring and additional treatments as necessary for lighter peels.

What are the benefits of Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels offer a transformative solution to enhance skin health and appearance, revealing a fresher, more youthful complexion. Here are several key benefits:

  • Reduction of Fine Lines and Wrinkles: They can minimize the appearance of fine lines, especially under the eyes and around the mouth, by removing the outermost layers of skin.
  • Improved Skin Texture and Tone: Peels can smooth out rough skin and irregular pigmentation to provide a more even skin tone.
  • Acne and Scar Treatment: The exfoliating action can help clear up breakouts and reduce the appearance of acne scars.
  • Sun Damage Reversal: Regular peels can diminish the effects of prolonged sun exposure, including age spots and hyperpigmentation.

Learn About Your Visit

Your treatment should be scheduled when you don’t have any major events for the next few days as your skin will need time to peel and heal.

  • Avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before the treatment. Skin that is sunburned or tanned will increase the risk of sun damage and irritation during the peel.
  • Avoid Retinol and abrasive exfoliants 5-7 days prior. You should also refrain from receiving Botox for 1 week before your appointment.
  • Avoid waxing or threading on the treatment area for at least a week prior to the treatment to avoid skin irritation.
  • Drink plenty of water before the treatment to keep your skin hydrated and healthy.

Chemical peels at Kallos begin with a skin assessment and pre-treatment preparation to understand your unique concerns and personalize the treatment accordingly.

  • First, we clean the skin thoroughly and cleanse it to maximize the absorption of the peel. The peel is then applied to the face, neck, chest, hands, or other areas of concern.
  • The peel is left on the skin for a specific amount of time, depending on the strength of the peel, your skin type and your unique concerns. During the peel you may experience a warm, tingling sensation, which is normal and expected.
  • The peel will then be neutralized to avoid any further penetration of the active ingredients. Skin turnover can be expected to start in the next 3 to 5 days.

Peeling is expected, but the severity and duration of the peeling can vary. In general, peeling will start 3-5 days post-treatment and can last for several days.

  • For the week following your chemical peel, you need to avoid vigorous exercise or sweating as this can cause irritation and inflammation to the skin.
  • For 14 days post-treatment, you will need to avoid direct sunlight as your skin will be very sensitive to sun exposure after the peel. Wear a hat and apply a high-quality broad-spectrum sunscreen.

How it Works

A chemical peel works by applying a chemical solution to the skin, which exfoliates the surface and causes the top layers to peel away, revealing smoother, more refined skin beneath.
